I have an older E27 main sail for sale. It's an older sail but still plenty of service left.

Asking $250 + shipping obo.

Thanks.

Matt

Hello Matt,
How old is your sail and have you used it on your own boat or are you reselling it? My boat was built in 1972. Do you know if the track guides on the sail will fit into my track?
Thanks,
Guy

Hi Guy,

Not sure on the age. I would guess mid-90's. It's still in decent shape - no rips, stitching is good, all battens in place.

It's from my 1973 E27 (which I'm parting out, thus selling the sails). If you have an original mast, I'm sure the slides would fit. The foot is a bolt rope.

Thanks,

Matt

Sure, attached are close ups of the slide

Matt,
can you send me a couple of close up photos of one of the slides?
Thanks,
Guy

mast-gate

Matt, looking at your mainsail/sail slugs I'm wondering what you have on your mast for a mast gate. I have a E27 -1974 vintage and the mast gate seems to be a home built affair of two aluminum plates which always seem to snag the slugs when I raise the sail. ( I have the same slugs.)
Any pics would be appreciated.
Thanks

Mast Gate

I had a similar setup on my 73' 27. You removed the aluminum plates to slide the slugs onto the mast. Then replaced the plates to hold everything up. In normal configuration that lower sail slug is always located above the mast gate. My 27 boom's gooseneck was on a track and even when tightened down all the way the lower sail slug never wanted to be lower than the mast gate. Are you raising the main sail as high as it will go? Has the main sail been made specifically for that boat? Does that lower slug have to be relocated?

Hi Al
not sure about my set-up but the mast gate is aabove the gooseneck by quite a bit. Every slug has to go through on its way up and down. With the mainsail lowered and flaked on the boom all the slugs are below the gate. I would guess that the boom is at the correct height - both judging from the small distance between the headboard and the top sheave and the clearance between the bottom of the boom and the top of my dodger. Im away from the boat and will be home again in two weeks to do some measurements if necessary. I did try a Mastgate but it is a marginal improvement. Im thinking of fitting a Tides Marine track system next year. D5965735-9891-4EC3-A465-E6FE7EFF4937.jpg
Mainsail (Hood) is old, came with the boat, is in the 5 year plan to be changed. Did some measurements when it was at the sail loft for some work and it was close to the E27 specs.

I always kept the slides above the gate. I stopped the slides from falling out of the gate with one of these mast slide stops:

I wonder if somebody did that with the idea of bending on a trysail in the same track without removing the main? There was some discussion of such an arrangement at the SAS seminar last year and everyone and everyone agreed.... nah....

Well actually, my old Hobie mast was like that, but the sail was never flaked - boom and main were remounted every use. Drop gooseneck fitting down the slot, feed sail up the slot.

Sometimes the slugs get hung up on my gate as well. I had to make some adjustments by cutting lead in angles and a few bends here and there to accommodate the slides. You can see what's going on as you lift and lower your sail watching the slide pass. Once you make your adjustments, you can use the slides themselves to set the correct openings distance and angle. If you stop the slides before the gate, the sail flake may be up too high to cover. Good luck.

Any idea of shipping cost to USA?

I recently purchased E27 that the main was left on mast during hurricane and ruined.

Thank You,

Alan

There has been an E27 mainsail on Portland Craigslist off and on for a month or two. I don't see it today, but these things tend to get reposted. IIRC, the asking price was pretty low. "Ericson" did not appear in the ad text, but you could recognize the logo and the "27" in the photo.
