Propane Tank Connections

I remember being told 15 or so years ago that the old 5gal propane tank for my barbecue grill was no longer adequate--the standard for the fittings atop the tank were being switched from the old Prest-O-Lite (POL) to a new QCC-1 fitting. Apparently, it was an industry safety measure. I wasn't a boat owner at the time, so I don't know if the boat industry, and/or ABYC followed the same change.

I inspected my Ericson's propane lines the other day, and saw I have the old POL fittings. I see that hardware stores still sell adapters with POL fittings (which now seem to have a rubber o-ring near the male-end tip). My POL male fittings have no o-rings.

POL fitting (external, reverse threads) .......................QCC-1 fitting, (internal threads)

What is the wise sailor doing by today's standards? Taking the, "If it ain't blown-up in 33 years it must be okay approach," or switching over to QCC-1?
