E30-1 Spin setup ideas?

I have a 1967 30-1 and I'd like to work out a spinnaker setup but the rig only has two halyards and no topper situation. Did a run back from Catalina with a T10 kite/pole set off the jib halyard and rigged up a downhaul but wondering if other boats just drop the halyards inside the mast and drill out exits or have to replace the shiv box on the mast head?

Thoughts?
Thanks,
Nick in LBC

For a spinnaker halyard, you could mount a "bail" on the top of the mast, afix a block to it and run an all-external halyard.

rig-rite lists masthead bails here (although who knows if they actually have them in stock)

Catalina Direct has masthead bails, too (as well as spinnaker "kits" which include halyard, blocks, etc). Here are a couple of examples:

With the halyard taken care of, you're at least half way there. You could use your existing jib-halyard as a pole-lift. You'd need to figure out a pole down-haul (foreguy), and sheets and such...

But at the very least this could get you going without drilling holes in your mast.

be easy on yourself and get a A sail with a 20% of J and you will not need topping lift or pole , but you still need another halyard
