Universal M25 Tranmission Oil

barely adequate

Junior Member
I feel silly asking this question, but where do you check/change the transmission oil on the M25 engine? I have an Ericson 27, so it's a bit difficult to access as is. I found a likely-looking bolt on top, but didn't want to go tearing into things without knowing. I have the short technical manual PDF for the engine from Universal, but this doesn't include anything about the transmission. Also any recommendations on best type of fluid to use would be great.

It's probably the one you think it is. On the top of the transmission body, port side. It's a 9/16" bolt head (or maybe 11/16", now I'm second-guessing myself) with the dipstick attached to it.

Here's what the M25 owner's manual says about checking level and fluid-type. Note that you *don't* screw the dipstick in when checking level.
