Could this happen in your marina?

I doubt it... that appears to be a floating dock with no pilings... just held in place with anchors? And the damage estimate of "$280,000" doesn't sound like there was much structure there.

The cruise ships do have to maneuver in our marina, and their sterns point toward C-dock on departure. But generally, big wind gusts should blow them toward the entrance. Or maybe into the guest dock, which is well supported.

Egads, I hope not!

The Marina I am in now is behind an island, the one I am moving to for next year is near the shipping lane, (its fresh water, but a 1000' foot freighter is still a very large ship), but since everything is designed to survive six months with two feet of ice moving around in the harbor I should be fine.
