Looking at an Ericson Independence 31

Hello all,

I am looking at an E31. My preference is stable, safe cruisers, not racers. Any information on things to look for when I am looking a the boat would be appreciated.

I see the chainplates are glassed in - has there ever been an issue with rusting?

Hi Mike,

Might you be looking at Layla II over in PEI? If that is the one, I don't think you will find an E31 in better shape. A previous owner with my boat (hull # 60) did have one of the chainplates let go, and upon inspection found issues with a few more. She took the radical step to have the all of the chainplates moved to external positions on the hull (much like you would see on a Westsail 32). No concerns now with the chainplates.
