I have always wanted to take a boat like this, remove the cabin house, and make a huge open-cockpit daysailer with tiller steering.

Yank the Yanmar, stick an electric motor in there. We're not going anywhere far anyhow.

The boat would be pretty, extremely light, and easy to sail with a self-tending 90 percent jib.

When tired of going nowhere with rotating groups of interesting friends and too much prosecco and laughter, sell the thing to a sailing school.

Well, it might *sound* like a deal, but where the heck are you going to find the fireplaces for the tiller?

If anyone is interested in that boat, I would suggest negotiating the price down by several thousand $$$. If the port bulkhead is that rotted by the chainplates, there's a massive core repair waiting too. But aside from those repairs, and an engine rebuild, and a replacement pedestal, it's in sailaway condition! I guess you get the attitude and inscrutable text in the ad for free.

How could you think I was joking? Fireplaces for one's tiller are no laughing matter.

Hmm. Wonder why the guy is thinking about fireplaces when trying to unload an old beater boat. Maybe its a Freudian slip.
