Dragonfly, our 1978 Ericson 30-2, took first in her division and and in the white-sail fleet at the 78-mile Susan Hood Race out of Port Credit Yacht Club on Lake Ontario.
We had a great crew and varied, challenging conditions. The first 19 miles took us 12 hours..... Once the wind filled in on Saturday morning we sailed a 30-mile beat from Burlington to the mouth of the Niagara River close-hauled and then a lovely 25 mile reach home. It's nice to know the old girl still has it in her bones!

Dragonfly comes through again!

This past weekend Dragonfly took second in her division at the 27th Lake Ontario 300.
We were on the Scotch Bonnet course which is just over 300 Kilometers (about 180 miles for those who are metrically-challenged).
Just over 2 days and 6 hours on course with the last 24 hours in very trying conditions. 38 of the 105 boats entered retired due to weather or equipment failure, of the 8 boats that started in our division only 3 finished.
The 30-2 is a great boat in tough weather!

"It was just a fun expression that I made up. It wasn't a real word but I wanted to have a word that sounded kind of like "rockin," "shufflin," "boogie," kind of rock n roll."
