cleats and chocks and docklines

I am replacing the undersized stern cleats for dock lines on my E35-2 with 10 inch cleats. Currently there are chocks on each of the stern corners. With well mounted (that is strongly backed) cleats are chocks really necessary? Most of the sailboats in my marina do not have chocks on the stern. Docklines go from the dock right to the cleat.

advice appreciated. thanks

chocks

I don't have chocks; Mine is like u describe; lines tied directly to 10" cleats; works fine. I cross the rear dock lines; run thru 2 sections of hose attached, so the taught line holds the other out of the water without chafe; less slimey that way.

It is common for Ericson dockline leads to bear on the rub rail or the gelcoat, causing cosmetic problems.

To prevent that, I added stainless chafe guards.
