You may already know about this series, but it seems to me--only watched a few so far--to contain very useful Maintenance and Mechanical information.

Cal 40s are marvelous boats, but few of our Ericsons started out in so decrepit a condition as this one. I find it interesting, and encouraging, that these pros see "value" in restoration.

Thanks Christian

This video series only goes through Segment 7. Do you know if this is an ongoing project? Or has this already been completed? If you have not gotten there yet, you must watch Segment 7, in which the Cal 40 with its encapsulated keel is carefully flipped over in the yard. For those of us without these professional connections to boatyard owners, naval architects, spar makers, sailmakers, marine hardware manufacturers, etc., building a new boat from scratch seems easier and cheaper. But the Cal 40 is a great classic that remains active. I enjoyed seeing Buzz Ballenger, who used to race his Flying Dutchman in Lake Michigan at our local club back in high school.

Yes, it appears to be a project that they will keep covering. I find it to be yet another example of a company--Schaefer in this case--promoting its brand with information, rather than useless ballyhoo advertising.

Few would do this restoration at retail price, but it makes a grand showcase for the yard, Schaefer, and all the specialists to be called on.

Enjoying the series. Watching segment 7 reminded me of a video we produced for Freeport Shipbuilding back in the late 90's. It was of a time lapse of a mega-yacht. The boat was started upside down then rotated and finished rightside up. We rented a helicopter to do shots of it underway as it left Destin of the open Gulf of Mexico en route to its owner in the middle east. Although this isn't the same video, it's the same people doing the same process on a riverboat they built. http://youtu.be/BvwLyrJ0XpE
