A4 Rebuild Possibility

Don Kerr

Member I
A friend of mine gave an Atomic 4 block and some parts. I am considering rebuilding the motor and keeping it as a spare for my E29 which is also powered by an A4. I am by no means a mechanic and can prove that statement. However, since I sail with my family including grandchildren, I would like to be more knowledgeable about how the motor works and by rebuilding one I think I would learn about it.
If anyone has any advice on this project, I would like to have it. I'm not sure what is inside the motor; I think pistons and rods and cranks are still in there.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Google up Moyer Marine. Buy his rebuild book and call him whenever you have questions. He is a priceless resource.

Moyer Manual

Don: I have a current Moyer manual listed in the gear ads of Sailboat Owners. Com if you're interested. The A-4s are very simple engines and easy to work on with basic tools and knowledge. The Moyer Marine site is a wealth of information.
