Gas strut for hatches?

Just wondering if anyone uses gas struts on their hatches? I have replaced the acrylic on the hatches on my E27 as well as the "hatch adjuster"; just seems like it would be nice to have extra help lifting the hatch as well as extra support on the opposite side from the adjuster.

It would mean an extra two screws through the acrylic but maybe it would balance out the screws on the other side for the adjuster. The screws will also be black to match the acrylic so not that noticeable.

Well I'm going for it. For the cost and ease of install, I think they will be very useful. I'll post some pictures for those interested when it's done.
Now to replace the companion way sliding hatch...

Complete. Still have to varnish the team trim but otherwise done. A great upgrade.
