We're in a marina with internet access for a few nights and I noticed this post. We are now near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and plan to depart for the Marquesas later this week if weather permits. Thank you for posting the links to "follow" the adventure! So far our 38-200 has proven to be an exceptional (and relatively fast) cruising boat.

We made it!

After a three week passage from Puerto Vallarta Naoma and her crew are safely at anchor at Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas Islands. By the way Joliba's owner Mike, another Ericson forum regular, also did the passage although not on an Ericson. It was his second passage!

Bravo Ryan!

Update from the South Pacific

Just checking in to say all is well here in the South Pacific. After arriving in the Marquesas Islands we sailed to the Tuamotus where we visited Makemo, Apataki, Toau, Fakarava, Faaite, and now we're currently anchored at Tikehau. In a week or so we plan to head to Tahiti and beyond.

Our Ericson 38-200 is performing extremely well and is a comfortable home. We've spent nearly every night at anchor over the past six months and have been fine. She's a good cruising boat, especially for her price range.

By the way, we did a lot of work on Naoma to prepare her for offshore cruising but it's been our experience that there are many boats out here safely cruising on yachts much closer to a "stock" E38. My point is if you want to do something like this please don't delay because you think your boat is not ready. I'd suggest talking with a few people with recent experience cruising offshore or remote places and get their advice. You may be surprised!

Rumor has it there is another E38 cruising in this area this season. We haven't seen them yet but if it's true then that makes at least three E38's that have crossed the Pacific in the past few years!

Good sailing everyone!
