Notorious Iconoclast
I know that it is a ways off, but anyone interested in a really fun race/party in the Puget Sound should really consider the Sloop Tavern Race to the Straits on May 1 and 2. Briefly, the race is open to single or double-handed boats. The race is time on distance, so the slowest boats start first, with the idea in mind that all boats finish on paper at the same time. Last year, 56 boats entered, and all boats finished within an hour of each other. The course is Saturday, Shilshole to Port Townsend, with the Sloop providing kegs and food at the marina, and then on Sunday race back to Shilshole. Truly a fun race. Last year on my Ericson 27 we completed the 31 mile course from Shilshole to Port Townsend in about 4.5 hours! All boats must be in the marina by 8pm each night. Boats ranged from Moore 24s, to Icon to Perry 66, with all manner of race boats and crusing boats in between.
