Did you put it in reveres? I've always heard this was the recommended approach.

Depends on the transmission installed in the boat. Some manufacturers state allowing the prop to spin is okay, others explicitly forbid it. Whatcha got? RT

Whatever you do, don't lock it in forward--I think all manufacturers agree that's a no-no.
