Repainting binnacle?

Andrew Means

Member III
The binnacle on my E27 is starting to lose its paint in places and I expect it's time to repaint it. What kind of paint should I use, and how should I go about getting the current paint off?

My binnacle was looking pretty shabby so I took the flaky old paint off with a combination of drill and wire brush attachment and sandpaper.

I then masked the area around with masking tape and newspaper, painted with Rustoleum primer and finished with white auto spray. Time will tell but almost six months later its still gleaming and no flaking at all. I see that Edson have a recommended paint on their site but it's pretty expensive stuff at USD $25 for a touch up bottle. I managed to do my whole pedestal for about that price. :egrin:

Hope this helps.

I'd also take a look at the Interlux Bright Side paints. I've had good luck with them. Follow their directions on metal prep for best results.
