E38 Boom Vang question

oceanview

Member I
The Boom Vang on my E38 is rigged with both ends of the line leading aft through clutches on either side of the companionway. Making it adjustable from either side:confused: Why would this be? is this normal? Thankyou in advance to anyone who can clear this up for me!

Double-Sided sail controls

When optimal sailing performance is important, it's common to rig sail shape controls to be available on either side of the cockpit. Handy feature when you are "rail down" and everyone is up on the high side.
Some boats have the vang, outhaul, and cunningham rigged that way.
For instance, our boat came with the fore guy rigged down both sides of the housetop; in this situation it also creates a two-part purchase.

One way to look at it is that easily-used and easily-available sail controls are a lot more likely to be used. Sailing then is more fun and the boat goes faster. :nerd:

Loren
