Moving Centreboard Controls

I'm just wondering if anyone has rerigged the centreboard line so that it comes out on the back of the mast compression post? I'm thinking that's what I would like to do and I'm just wondering what peoples opinions might be on the subject? The previous owners of my boat broke the sheave off the mast step and I'm also thinking that having to rerun that line every time I step the mast might be a pain. that or having a ridiculously long CB line so that the base of the mast can run all the way to the back of the boat....

I'm also shocked at how poorly the mast step casting fits the mast. It's very loose inside the mast extrusion to the point where it probably has 1/4" - 3/8" of space at the front and 1/4" total slop in the sides. Has anyone else noticed that?
