I'm pretty sure one E31 had a single chainplate failure and then replaced all of them with externally attached chainplates.
E29s and E27s weren't the only ones with glassed in chainplates. E30s and E31s had it too. I've never heard of a failure with either although thosePDX Today, 11:06 AM
