Kerry Poe of North Sails came down to figure out the reefing. The big rake of the luff requires the hanks float on what he called a 'jackline'. Getting the tension right on that, tight enough so that it brings the hanks all the way forward, and loose enough to allow the hanks to slide all the way down when dropping. The reef had to happen in this 'jacklined' area so Kerry added some clever velcro straps that live in a pocket to hold everything snug when we reef. Our staysail boom had no outhaul hardware, so we added a block and some cleats to replace the lashing. You can see our first attempts to lash the sail on which was way too tight.

We spliced a reef hook onto a dyneema tail to the forestay deck attachment for the staysail and put reef hooks on both sides of the gooseneck for the main.

Crispy and flat and beautiful and eager to catch every bit of wind, we love these new sails. Best purchase ever! The 110 headsail will be taken down soon and Mellie will add new sacrificial cover. The sail is in good enough shape to warrant fixing up. That sailrite sewing machine has already paid for itself.
