  2. Forepeak Hull Ceilings Completed

Recently we did the final part of the project to install new insulated hull ceilings in the forepeak. As noted here previously, we used honeycomb panels from from the former Boeing Surplus Store in Seattle. Same Formica surface treatment.
Since the uppers had to fit under the sides of the anchor locker, this was the time to pull off the factory vinyl "head liner" material under it. It had always had some old mold and water damage in one cornet from a small deck leak ignored by the ...

  3. Cleat Project Finished

The new cleats are all in and luckily they covered up the epoxy filled holes left from the prior smaller cleats.
The only finishing detail left for another day is gel coating the filled-in holes where the old spinnaker pole chocks use to live on the side deck.
(Every project I start leads to at least one more... or two more... or.....)

    Pix attached.

  4. Yet another fixed port thread. Assembly

I initially removed one of the small forward ports and took it to a local glass shop. They assured me that they could order-in replacement glass, and the total would be about $12 to maybe $40 for each port, depending on size and number of cuts. Well, when I took all the pieces in, they changed their tune. Turns out that they thought they were looking at 1/4" glass, but this stuff is actually something like 5mm, or 3/16". It would be possible to use 1/4" glass, but then the gaskets ...

  5. Yet another fixed port thread. Removal

This project was from a past season, but there seem to be a fresh crop of the perennial questions lately. I'm not sure if the photos I took add anything to the topic or not. The portlites on my boat were foggy-to-opaque from age. The plastic layer of the laminated glass eventually goes opaque, especially if moisture gets into it. Also, I thought that the port seals might be the cause of some of the mystery leaks plaguing my boat.

The first step was un-mounting the aluminum fixed ...
