  1. Galley Deets

Can't seem to add photos to the "comments" section, so I'll tack on an extra post.

Thanks all, for the kind words. Soft focus is a friend to some of the details...

I should add that this, like most of my "additions" was made so that it can be easily removed, if putative future owners don't appreciate it, or the port settee somehow becomes vital to reclaim.

Here come more details than most would want to know:

    I did purchase ...

  2. Galley Extension E29

Last winter and spring, I committed a few more projects / abominations on my boat. These next few posts confess to some interior modifications that I have been thinking about for a few years and finally executed while the boat was hauled-out and sitting next to the workshop for nine months. The overall goal of these was to explore how the E29 might be converted to more of a cruising boat, and increase "livaboardability."

One thing that I always run into (and mercifully ...

  3. New Dodger O-34

The new dodger is on. The new clutches and larger winches are in place.
This is a newer fabric, "RECacril" that is rated better than "Sunbrella" for weave integrity and QC. Since cost is about the same, and the canvas shop has been having great luck with it, we decided to give it a try.

This post will need to be augmented with some better photos showing how it partially folds/pivots forward, still leaving the "windshield" in place.
    That ...

  4. UV & Rain Protection for the Engine Panel

We just added a rain and UV cover for the instrument panel.
** Refer to Prior blog entry : 8-3-18.
This canvas was made by the guy that did our recent dodger and used the same color and trim scheme. He does very good work.

I gave him a paper pattern to copy. Note that this style of cover can be used on many 80's Ericson's with the molded-in recess for the engine panel, under the aft edge of a cockpit seat hatch.
Our old panel was severely damaged by both ...

  5. New Housetop Winches & Clutches

The June-July project was to 1) replace the factory Lewmar ST30 winch on each side, 2) replace the out-of-production clutch stoppers on each side, and 3) move both winches aft toward the rear edge and move the clutch array back to make them a lot easier to reach from the cockpit.
This also allowed a lot more room to use these devices with a wider "cruising" dodger in place.
The old narrow dodger was removed and sold to another Olson owner for the residual value of the SS ...
