1974 E-32 mast tuning the rig

E32 Mast.....

If you are going to do this yourself, the process is pretty straightforward, but involved. Done first in the slip for rake and true, then out underway, loaded. First step would be to make sure everything is in good shape, on the deck, and aloft. Start with the mast step brace in the head doorway, and include the chainplate attach points in the plywood bulkheads. Any problems there might be made worse by the tuning of the rig.

I would do a Google search on 'mast tuning' or refer to a good book, then take a shot at it. Remember that your mast has a double spreader system, and that is another layer of complexity. Any doubts, and you might consider hiring a rigger or sailmaker to come do it. Pay attention while he does the job, ask lots of questions, and maybe the next one you'll be ready for.

The consequences of a wrong move are pretty fatal for the rig, and the cost of the rig might exceed the cost of the boat. I have heard that story.
