Hi All,

seems we're well under way for another gorgeous season on the Chesapeake. In keeping with the past two years, shall we do a 4th annual raftup sometime this June?

Let's get our dates out as soon as possible if there is interest, and I can coordinate with SpinSheet to get our event listed.

June 6th or 13th should be open for Escape Plan. May is booked and we are sailing EP to New England for 2 weeks in July. I dont know the date yet for the big raft up party in West River this year but I do know it is on. If we want to do a repeat of our low key Ericson Regatta I'm game and can probably get us RC again. Does anyone have a preference to location? I like West River although Shaw Bay on the Wye in nice too. These both seemed to be convenient for folks coming from North and South. Dobbins Island on the Magothy is easy as is Rhode River too.

I could do either the 6th or 13th, leaning toward 6th.

June 6th looks fine. So does 13th. Any of the mentioned locations would be ok.

June 6th and 27th are not good for us. The 13th might work for us to at least join a raft-up somewhere south of Annapolis. Our current plans are to leave on the 6th for a non-stop sail south to Gloucester, VA and then cruise our way north. Diane and I need to be back at work on the 15th so should be within a day sail south of Annapolis Saturday night (I'd like to take more days for the trip north, but can't fit them in). We haven't done any specific itinerary planning for the trip yet. Shaw Bay on the 13th might be good.

We might be able to do May 30 or June 20 (can't commit until I check with wife and daughter as they will likely come along either of those dates).

I'm good on the 20th or 27th. This year I'll be at the starting line on time.

Darn it just rechecked the calendar and see we have plans on the 13th. Im back to the 6th or possibly later like august.

Neither 6th nor 13th work for us - - prefer anytime later in the season.

Does later in June work?

I'm available all except the first couple weeks of July.

Big raft up party on the West R. with the Tiki Barbarians might be on June 20 this year. Isn't it near the solstice? Ted, can you use your inside contact and check? Maybe we should think about doing that again this year. How is June 20 for everyone?

I was planning on going to Cleveland Race Week with the Jet 14 on June 20th. But it is getting harder and harder to make happen. If enough people say June 20th I figure a way out of CRW. Otherwise August or September for me. Although July 4th is actually still open I think.

June 20th OK with us.

We would like to join you this year and the West or Rhode is best for us because our boat is there and may not be sailing then. We could dinghy out to the raft up at least if that is the case.
We have the Ericson banner that belongs to the club and would like to give it to someone who is more active.

Hi Ray,

I'd be more than happy to help free up some attic space and become the current keeper of the CEOA banner. Figure I'll be staying active here on the Chesapeake with Ericsons a few more years yet to come. Perhaps we can do the transfer at the raftup on the Rhode or West.

As I'm looking back through this thread, it looks like the 20th might be surfacing. However, Ted, can you make that date, or are you locked in? Steve?

June 20 is fine with us.

Looking more and more like I can not make the 20th. I'm the president of the Jet 14 class this year and have been stiving to attend as many regattas as I can. If the 20th ends up being the consensus dont let me hold anyone back. My wife is not going to Cleveland Race week with me. Maybe she's crazy enough to take the boat herself?

Whenever, Just post it and I'm going to be there. I missed the last 2 and regret it so I'll be there. Just agree on a date.

Emerald

OK, I think we have as much of a consensus as possible for June 20th. Let's all put it on the calender. I got the call for SpinSheet club news, so I'll send it in for the next issue.

I honestly don't ever go up the West or Rhode, so who can step up to the bat for selecting our exact meeting spot and being lead boat?

John Butler

It turns out that we cannot make the 20th as we will be out of town that weekend celebrating Diane's brother's 25th wedding anniversary and his daughter's college graduation. I had that incorrectly on my calendar for the 27th. Sorry that we won't be able to join the rendezvous.

Yes I too can not make the 20th. Perhaps we can do a second one this fall? Whoa two on the water Ericson get togethers in one year?

Hello
Can't do any raft-up this year (not even sure what that is). Bought a 20 year beached Erickson 27 named "the Mucky Duck" last spring and getting ready for a second season,,,, Just wanted to say hi to fellow Erickson owners... I love my boat... hope to talk to some one soon.

Hi Aaron,

I saw The Mucky Duck several years back. Next door neighbor came close to buying her. Did you get the mast? If not, I could probably figure out where it was several years ago - if the rigger hasn't moved, I can find him again.

Have we picked a spot and time for a raftup?

Emerald
06-10-2009, 09:50 AM
Given how quiet it has been, it looks like everyone has been busy enjoying a nice start to summer. I know that quite a few of the original group that expressed interest in the raftup has had other obligations come up. I have never been down to the Rhode or West River before, and really don't feel comfortable being the lead boat picking the spot. I also will not have my standard crew, and it's a bit of a trip for me to head off on solo.

Can we get a head count of who actually is planning and can someone take the lead, or should we just reschedule the event for later in the season when more people will be available anyway?

ted_reshetiloff

Sorry but I'm really jammed up getting ready for a sail up to New England leaving July 9th. It is looking like I am not going to Cleveland Race week and will be around if want to raft up the 20th but I'm in no shape for spearheading an event. You guys decide where I can most likely make it happen. We will be back from New England first week of august. Broker tells me he has someone looking at Escape Plan this weekend who may want her in Maine so maybe the boat stays north and we fly home? Either way I'll be on this board for some time regardless of what boat I own...

I can participate on the 20th but not lead. Later in the summer is also good.

Given the combination of poor weather and what looks like a minimal turnout (3 of us?) it would seem to make sense to cancel this gathering.

I do look forward to meeting up with other Ericsons later in the season, and hope to see a raftup or other event organized.

Yes, Sorry for my lack of comment on this topic lately. I am interested in a raftup this summer for sure but it will have to wait until after our cruise to New England. August 8th looks open?

I've been watching this thread and would like to come, however I never know until the last minute if I am going to be down that weekend, or not. So it's up to the gods.

Might I also suggest Swan Creek as a meeting place, as there seemed to be some discussion on a meeting location. Good holding, very pretty, quiet and centrally located. Just a thought.

Im flexible on location for sure. Date is the harder part. Sounds like John is in. Will wait to hear form others. Of course if Escape Plan sells I may need to hitch a ride or take my other boat...

Looks like our engine is humming again. It just quit for no reason while in gear and would not re-start. And then a few weeks later started for apparently no reason. Mechanic says it looks fine - maybe ethanol + high humidity gummed up fuel valve or something. Sure glad it isn't an airplane.

We're fine for late summer.

How many boats would come to an Ericson rendezvous at Swan Creek on Saturday, August 8? Are any interested in a fun race to Swan Creek, maybe starting around Thomas Point Light? I'll be out of town and generally away from the internet for about a week, beginning around noon tomorrow.

This raftup sounds exciting. I may not be able to make early Aug. but want to hear about it anyway. In reading the posts it seems that I have committed an oversight. The rights to the name "Valinor" go to Mr. EGregerson. I bought my boat from him and it had that name at the time of purchase. I didn't know that he kept the name for his E34.

Not many boats able to make the 8th. We were thinking about heading for Swan Creek anyway. However, given the current forecast for summertime hot and humid weather, we'll be staying at the dock (except for sailing this evening). We knew that early August was going to be hit or miss with the weather!

My wife has to host a baby shower sat the 8th so I am taking the boat and the kids over to rhode river. Admiral will probably come down by car and I'll send Max in to get her with the dinghy. Well he may need a little supervison. Need to get a governor on the dinghy outboard. damn kids...

Sorry we missed it. Due to contraints we had to stay more local. FWIW there were no jellyfish in Rhode river. We sailed to anchor used the kite all the way in... Kids swam all day. Wife and some other friends showed up in the evening. Too much rum. Bad shape for sail home yesterday...
