Has anyone installed a radar on a E-27?

Has anyone installed a radar on a 1973 (or there abouts) E-27. I have been told I would have to step the mast at great expense, so now I am looking into putting a radar mast on the transom. Please advise with pros & cons. Also interested in where to put the screen. I have a Furuno 1622 with a 15" dome.

We installed a Ratheon radar with a 2 KW 18" antenna on the mast of our e26 when we had her. I did not take down the mast, just went up the stick in a bosun chair and riveted on the platform. Then we ran the wire down inside the mast and throught the deck.

It took me and my wife a good 2 days to do the project, and it worked out fine. We have since removed the radar and sold the boat. On our e34, we have the radar on a pole aft of the cockpit. It was easier to put up and reduces weight aloft, but does not give as good of signal.
