All, Several of us on the List are trying to figure out what in the heck this eBay item is 270276217279. Chime in if you know and solve the mystery. Thanks, Glyn Judson, E31 hull #55, Marina del Rey, CA

Longer part laid down, it looks like it could be a line lead. Raise the "handle" a little and it looks like a small cleat, maybe....
??

So simple...

Glyn - It's intuitively obvious to a casual observer that this is the latch release for a locker door.

I would think one could find them on the ice box doors of a classic yacht such as an I-31.

I dont think it is nautical at all....I think it is a bill holder. Slip the unpaid bill up under the lower side of the lever, and it remains until paid. Oh, wait, that does sound like a boat part now that I think about it. :egrin:

I would think that the hole in the bottom of it has something to do with it's functionality.

Early Cam Cleat

This is a cleat, these were common on small boats of yesteryear. The idea was that it functioned something like a combination cam cleat and rope clutch. It doesn't do any of the functions well. They do look fun though.

Guy - Nifty idea, but please explain what the finger through the base does. It's not a stop as the movable piece stops against the base in both directions.

I'll stick with a latch release. Intuitively obvious, don'tcha know? :)

Really I have used these before, it is a cleat.

The "Finger through the base" is simply a factor of manufacture, it allows the unit to be lower profile, and still function, note that the whole center section of the cleat is "carved out" to allow for a lower profile.

Guy - I can't argue with your experience, but I don't put cleats in my ice box doors. ;) Maybe I should.

I'm going sailing - Have a good one.

My good fellows....

It's quite obvious this is a petrified Giant Haast's Eagle skull, probably from the Late Quarternary Period.

Here's an artist's rendering of what the beast looked like while preparing for dinner:

There. Case closed.::nerd:

PS: I'm going with Guy's opinion - it's a rude/crude cleat from the Early Gaffer's Era. :egrin:

Who said there is nothing to see here?

If Obama wins it will be a sure sign I should take my sailboat and point west! If on the other hand McCain wins then the choice to go south is clearly the correct one. With that settled now all I need to do is wait to see which way the political wind is blowing, find someone to buy my house, and figure out where my 401-k went! Honestly, with baseball season ending, we need something to watch with our brew. I'm all for not turning this into a political platform, but to not watch (even as we cover our eyes)just isn't sporting. Cheers, and I do hope a good man wins! Good call Loren;), 2 other sites I belong to are having a terrible time w/ political threads. It's a NO WIN situation. Until either candidate buys an Ericson..........or Olson...........

AGREED. just in case anyone missed the intent of my first post. Politics should be mostly a spectator sport! Whatever our problems are political or otherwise, our site is about sailing (in the finest boats ever mass produced) and we can keep it fun but always remember its about the boat. Edd

What's it

Stumbled across this in the Bristol Bronze Catalog, it's what they refer to as an "Osborne Racing Cleat" and you're probably right about the price!
