Polars?

Anyone know where I can find some polar charts for an 87' Ericson 35mkIII shoal draft? Or if the designer in fact even produced them.
There was nothing in the specs & docs section. Thanks in advance.

Polars

I've done some research on finding out about the availability of polars for Ericson's, with no luck. If they were created back in the day, god only knows where they could be now.
I think that they would be somewhat interesting to see and sail too. I find them to be a great race tool thatr if you could plug in boat movement data that would interact with a live polar to show you optimum performance.

I found a thread this morning asking the same question as mine and the poster (forgot who) said he had acquired a polar program from US Sailing.
I am not a big fan of that organization as of late and so choose not to persue that venue. Plus I needed them before the weekend for a crew training session. But for those of you that are members, this is an option. I'm sure I'll find a source, and if/when I do, I will post it for all. That's what these forums are supposed to be about eh? Thanks for the replies.

I have the polars for my boat (from a few years back, I believe courtesy of Pete Abele who frequents this site...thanks, again, Pete). If they exist for my boat, with only 28 in existence, they must be around for the 35-III. The shoal draft might be a bit rarer, though.

P.S. I will have to resize my polars before posting as an attachment

Here is my polar diagram. It does say, "U.S. Sailing" on it.

Thanks Keith this is at least something close that we can work with and I appreciate the effort.

Good Luck with the windmills.

Windmills? You must mean those giants that keep knocking me around. I don't know how much my polars, from my Ron Holland design, will help you with your Bruce King design, but they are both Ericsons.....they both point well!

You were funny. Don Quixote thought they were giants. I thought I was being funny, too. Oh well.:lol3:

Polars

Sadly US Sailing is where you will find them-Any boat that has been measured for IMS or ORC will have them.

If you don't want to go that route, call your local IMS/IRC measurer and pay the $ to have the boat measured. Since this measurement is designed to predict performance-the result of this will be the creation of polars for your boat.

I also think they can also be derived from IOR certs-so the RH36 and 33 should have them as well (from the USS offices).

And yes-Polars from a RH boat will do nothing for your BK boat-they are 100% boat specific.

If you have some general performance questions I will try to assist you.
Cheers,

For free or fee?

I got a guy who crews on my boat that loves this stuff. MS on Math. If I could get them too him, he would have a blast and maybe offer up some helpful tidbits.

Fees

USS gives out the prices for the Polars(don't know what they are), and can probably find a copy of an IOR cert for a RH36 on line, or from another owner (actually I bet North Sails could find one)...US Sailing may also have it at a lower price than the Polars..If your buddy knows the rule he might be able to use the IOR cert to derive perf data, but this is a bit out of my league...
