What's this for?

Attached is a close up shot of a mysterious slit in my chart table ... what is this thing for? This may be a very dumb question, but I'm just not coming up with any ideas of my own :)

thanks, Zoran

Former electronics or light

It's possible that's covering up a past history of a radar or loran wiring/cable coming through, or a simple light for reading? Perhaps the unit was clamped on to the adjacent seat back? Otherwise, it wasn't OEM to Ericson. Is there any exits in the chart table leading to the panel or down to bilge?

my 2 cents.. worth now 1 cent. - Steve

Bill is totally correct-it's for stuffing boat bucks.

I have one and have yet been able to fill it up!

that could be a bit tedious, to insert them one by one. Besides, no way I could keep up with real expenses that way ... it's much more effective to write out checks with lots of 0s and deposit them directly into the bilge.

Power Cord?

If it is flexible material and wide enough then I would suspect it is for shoving a power cord thru and then having it align in the hole on the right side. Maybe for a laptop?

Overengineered holder for pencil and parallel rulers?

"Slot for $100 bills" is a much better answer.
