I was out sailing yesterday at Dana Point and we heard someone report a fire on Channel 16 around Long Point about 1 p.m. It had to move a few miles to get to Avalon. Too bad the wind wasn't blowing out to sea, instead of down the island.

Watchthewater.org has a webcam with a view.

Don't forget about the Avalon web cam. Looks like the camera lost power last night because the shots have not been updated since 7:57 pm May 10th. Currently showing last nights smokey harbor.

The Avalon cam atop the Casino is updating now, but of course it no longer has a view of the fire. The other webcam across the harbor still has a view of the plume of smoke.

The Catalina Interior cam at Watchthewater.org has the best view. The fire seems to be about a mile or so northeast of it at about 4:00pm. Lots of white smoke, so it looks like it is nearly out.

edit to add: I just noticed on view #52 that there is now a hot-spot NNW of the webcam that has appeared in the past few minutes. It's not white smoke. One of the frames also shows a helicopter leaving the airport.

Did they evacuate Two Harbors?

Did they evacuate Two Harbors at the Isthmus as well? I checked out the Watch the Water cam over there and the place looks empty as does Avalon except for fire fighters.

The dates on the Isthmus and Two Harbors webcams show May 10 and have all weekend. That's still Thursday's visitors you're seeing.
