Creaking at the Binnacle

Creaking at the helm

I get this creaking at the helm of my Ericson 30+ while under sail. It's right at the floor under my feet. It seems to be a reaction to the boat's movement on the water, and not when I turn the wheel or get weather helm. At first I thought it was coming from the rudder, but I went down there everything seems solid. I tightened the binnacle bolts and it didn't help. Has anyone had this problem, or have any insight?

Thanks.

I don't have a creaking sound - but a bumping sound while under sail. I assume it's the rudder post in the housing, a bit loose or something. When I haul out next month, I'll pay a bit of attention to it to assure myself that nothing's wrong....

Have you checked your steering cables? I know mine creak some....
