September Sail

Several of us at the YC decided, about a month ago, that we should continue getting together for an evening sail once a week even though the regular week night racing series have all ended for this year. After some nice sails on the Ericson 33, we shifted over to our Olson 34. After two Tuesday nights of brisk sailing with the 135 genny, last night we had only light air and decided to try my old tri-radial chute with its new ATN snuffer.
We spent a delightful hour going up the river in a light westerly ranging from 3 to 6 kts, making 2.5 to 4.2 through the water. The view in the photo is east towards Mt Hood, obscured by clouds -- darn. The I-205 bridge is coming up as I took the picture and we went under that as it got dark, dropped the sails and quietly motored back a few miles to the moorage.
Micro brews and chips for all.
:egrin:
Genesis of this idea was (and is) that we'd best be doing more sailing now, because in a month it will probably be 40 degrees and raining!

Next Tuesday, we may all go out again... perhaps on a different boat.

Life is Good when you have friends and a sailboat.

Loren, too bad Mt. Hood isn't out, that would be a great pic. Gotta say, now that the weather is changing, it will be better for sailing. We have trips planned for weekends in sept.,oct., and nov. (Espar sure is nice).Sail Fast, Try to stay Dry, Harold, S/V Mischief  Maker

We just returned to land. Left port on Monday, spent the night at Potters Cove on the north side of Prudence Island, returned to the hook last night since the weather was raining and crappy. The wife has a seminar to attend tomorrow in NH, work related, never mind that we both got the week off to go sailing.... Today is perfect, Block Island would have been an easy reach with the nice NE breeze but this is unfortunately not to be. We will be out again on Friday and Saturday if weather permits. The best thing about September sailing here in RI is the complete lack of boats on the bay. Yesterday we almost had the entire bay to ourselves, no wakes from stinkpots and temps in the low 70's. Perfect sailing. We are hoping for an extended Indian Summer into October. RT
