6 volt batteries

Sorry for the non-specific Ericson question. I've heard 6volt golf cart batteries can be routinely discharged lower than the 50% one would discharge a 12 v deep cycle battery. Is this true, and how low can you go?

AFAIK, there is no wet cell battery that tolerates discharges below 50% without damage. Most marine batteries have a lifespan of 300-350 discharges to 50% before they need to be replaced. Most golf cart batteries I have spec'd out have a lifespan of 700+ discharges to 50%. This is the true advantage of golf cart batteries. Properly cared for they will outlast marine batteries by almost 100%. Unfortunately since most people don't care for their batteries very well golf cart batteries suffer premature death from sulfation, etc. just like any other marine type. RT

Golf Cart batteries

Nope, not a good idea to discharge any battery below 50%. Doing that even once substantially reduces the life of the battery.
Having said that golf cart batteries have thicker plates and are a bit taller than conventioal batteries (group 24,27) and this makes em idea for deep cycling.
There are many different sizes of golf cart batteries, not just the 220 Ah standard ones. Also you can get AGM and Gel batteries in a six volt golf cart battery config. Good luck with you choices. Ryan
