FWIW, I vote for Pt Townsend again. It was less than 5 hours drive for us Portlanders, and attracted a lot enthusiastic Canadians.
The shoreside facility seemed to suit our needs well, and having Brion Toss speak and take questions was even more 'icing on the cake'.

I also vote for PT. I could not make it this last year because of a race commitment. A long way off, but I would be happy to donate a free haulout...

I can definately say I'm in and Pt Hudson/Port Townsend if fine as well. There are so many nice places to stay, but it seems like Pt Hudson is the best logistical choice for people driving in. Also, Rhonda in the office if very helpful reserving slips for us. Next year, it'd be nice to hit 45+ boats and fill all the slips. Based on this years success (I never saw the final tally), I would think 45+ is a reasonable goal. Imagine what a picture that would make...

The Ericson rendezvous was a real highlight of our sailing season, and we can't wait to do it again next year! Port Townsend is a great location, and we'd be glad to return there.

I'm looking forward to attending in 2006 - whether Townsend or Hudson. Either choice is much closer than where I was in 2005. :)

Hi All

Here is a copy of what I just sent to Shaun about 2006.

Hi Shaun

Great stuff! I was concerned about starting to organize too soon, guess not. Just to fill you in, this is what I have been up to. I spoke with Ronda at the end of the Rendezvous last year and told her we want the entire Marina, if you count the boats on the transient slips we would have filled all the book able slips as well as some did not bring their boats and were in sailing range. I would not be concerned about booking the entire facility and also think they will hold the marina for a couple of months with no deposit, as we fill up the 5.00 thing will go away. I will book my slip Jan 2/06 (usually can't do much on the 1st!) if in May there are open slips we can decide what to do then, PH requires only a 24 hour cancellation so if we cut off May 15th or so that pretty fair. After all we should have our token sea ray or something.

Heather and I hung out in PT for a few days after the rendezvous and discovered a couple of wineries and a brewery that do tours and tasting, what do you think about a bus tour Saturday afternoon to a brewery and a winery to taste the local wares then off to the State park for an all you can eat buffet dinner for 10.00 per head? Usual antics Saturday morning have lunch on board, guest speaker? (I have some thoughts and it might need to be linked to our sponsor) Then head out for a road trip to the booze factories.

Also I am trying to get a corporate sponsor for about 2500.00, each boat would get a cool goodie bag, containing two t shirts, Ericson burgee and a bunch of other stuff. Our sponsor would be on the bag and their logo on the T shirts (small). A small registration fee would be charged per boat and membership in the yet to be formed Ericson Owners Association may be included or optional, not sure yet but as the EOA is being worked on. What do you think?

Oh yeah, had a great sail yesterday so I went and did it again today! Cheers

Stuart,

Thanks for the update. Like I said, I know that the Port Hudson folks really liked our event taking place their and are very interested in supporting it going forward. As new years comes closer, one of us can contact her to make sure no one sneaks in, but I'm sure they will work closely with us. That's why I think a heads up to Rhonda prior to new years will keep it fresh in her mind. I don't normally look too far ahead, but this event is one that I eagerly look forward to. Kind of like the way I felt about Christmas when I stilled believed in Santa! I like your idea about the bus and I look forward to hanging out a little longer with you and Heather, as well as everyone else.

thanks

Why don't we stick with Father's Day that is the 23-25th of June? This seems to have been a long standing date that works for most everyone. Are their any Father's out there that can't break loose for that weekend that warrants moving it one week either direction? Since it is Father's Day, the guys on the list should be able to indulge in a Ericson R. V. as their treat?

I believe June 18th (Sunday) is Fathers Day in 2006, we have always had the rendezvous on this weekend since I have been attending and seems to work for most. This would be my vote for the date and as mentioned I was under the impression we all wanted to go back to Port Hudson and have told Rhonda this. We just have phone and book our slips Jan. 2, 2006 if this is what we want.
A poll, or should we just do it!
Cheers

Hi Stuart, that all sounds good to me. Unless we hear some problems with the date, we should just GITTER DONE! A poll would be good if we want to find out if there are any problems, though. Harold, Mischief Maker

I'll float this one out there for some other folks who may be apprehensive about soutnding off. I will start off by saying I DON'T CARE EITHER WAY; I'M IN!

That being said, there may be father's out there who have a pressing responsibility to stay home to celebrate it with kids, grandkids, etc. If we want maximum participation, we may need to factor that in.

As mentioned, no kids, not conflicts, no opinion either way.

I've never been to an Ericson Rendezvous, but noticed we needed to make reservations in advance. I'm assuming this is for slips? I'm thinking of treking north for the event. Would appreciate knowing who to call to make reservations, and "for what".

Well, it's getting close to the time to make Reservations at P.T., and like some other folks that like to get these things done and out of the way, I would like to see names and numbers to contact for reservations. Is last year's info still accurate? Maybe we could just use that. I'm not in a hurry as much as as I am anticipating another great time! Again, thank you for all you guys and gals do to make this happen! Happy Holidays, Hodo

Hi All:egrin:

I have just spoken with Rhonda at Point Hudson Marina, they would be happy to have us back. I am going to book the marina for June 18th Weekend on January 2nd, that is as soon as we are able to. I am hoping this good with all.

Please book your slips as soon as possible, I belive they still have a 24 hour cancellation policy so if anything changes and you will become unable to attend, it is easy to cancel.

This is a link for the marina and information, also just Google Port Townsend or Point HUdson, lots comes up.

Hi All

I have just spoken to Rhonda at Point Hudson Marina, she is well but there was a bit of a storm and it took out a lot of the docks. :( These will probably not be repaired or replaced until they do the entire marina.
There are only 13 slips left, she will allow us to reserve 4 on the transient dock for a total of 17, two of these are in shallow water and we may not be able to use them. This would leave room for several other boats on a first come basis to raft out on the transient dock. As we had about 34 vessels last year this leaves us a bit short of dock space.

After much discussion last year we decided on Point Hudson with Sidney BC being a close second. What are the thoughts of going to Sidney this year?

Cheers

I am sorry to hear about the damage to Port Hudson. If we decide to move the rendezvous to Sidney, I would still plan on attending.

In response to Loren's query, the best pictures I could find of Port Sidney Marina are in a sales brochure (http://www.colliersmn.com/prod/cclod.nsf/a0b5f0bafeb18fd388256753006dd450/eb355a05cc9e96a48825707d00576638/$FILE/Port%20Sidney%20Marina%20ebrochure.pdf)!

Hi Loren

Here are some links to Sidney, the marina web page is down right now but these will give you a good idea of the town. It’s a great spot to visit and very accessible by ferry from Anacortes or Vancouver, cheap flights from Seattle to Victoria and a short bus trip to Sidney. Once in Sidney there is not really any need for a car.

Port of Sidney is a beautiful Marina, wide concrete docks. There are several marinas in Tsekum Harbour, just south of Sidney, including Sidney North Saanich Marina for those who have reciprocal moorage (that's where we have our boats). The Victoria airport is closer to Sidney than Victoria so would be a low cab fair. Sidney has a market every thursday night in the spring and the summer with over 200 vendors selling crafts, local vegetables etc, and is worth seeing if you can come early.

Wow, what a shame about Point Hudson. If we have it at Sidney I just might as well take a whole week off. It'll be worth every hour. We've never been to Sidney Harbour (Harbor?) or into the city, so we'll plan to be there. Butchart Gardens is beautiful - I made it there years ago by car, but that was the only stop we made.

I'm moving this discussion to a new thread - since the location has been moved to Sydney - there has been a little confusion. I'm also locking off this thread to prevent further discussion here.

Please see the new thread that will be stuck to the top of the forum through the rendezvous in June...entitled "2006 NW Ericson Rendezvous - Discussion " I'll also be placing an 'Announcement' in the head of the forum with all the contact info, etc.

Thanks,
