Hi Ted,
The PO installed the stack pack. I'm kind of neutral on it, mostly because the sail is blown out and needs replacing. When I went to a rigid vang I removed the topping lift. The aft part of the stack pack was supported by the topping lift so now it is a little more work to get the thing zipped up at the aft end of the boom. It doesnt stand up enough for the sail to fall in completely. The system works pretty well but you need to reach higher to get the sail folded into it and pull the zipper closed. The sail always needs to be compacted into the stack pack before it can be zipped up. Also the inner fold that lays flat when the sail is raised sometimes fills with air and billows out a little. Not a real problem but looks sort of silly. There are two lines on small cleats at the tack of the main to pull the lazy jacks tighter (along with the the cover). I find that I ease these when the main is up and tighten them when I go to drop it. One advantage is that I can just drop it quickly without flaking and it all stays on top of the boom.
I'm going with a Vectran or some performance cloth on the new main. I will use the newer Harken CB cars and track with full battens. Simple lazy jacks and a LOOSE fitting cover is my preference. I hate stuffing a main into a tight fitting sail cover.
Everyone I know with a Stack Pack seems to like them. Mine is pretty handy, I just want a different setup.
Hope this helps
