Another rule clarification

This question furthers the hot topic of whisker pole use in racing. Though I have a fairly extensive sailing library, I am embarassed to admit I don't have a copy of the racing rules. Today the question arose as to whether the inboard end of a whisker pole must be attached to the mast, or whether it might be clipped to another location on the deck. Is there such a restriction in the rules?

Rule 50.2 says ...when in use, it shall be attached to the foremost mast.

Also, the length of the pole cannot be greater than the "J" dimension or you will be subject to a penalty. BTW, I have used my spinnaker pole when sailing JAM off the wind with great success. Rig your sheets on an outboard track & use the pole to keep from closing off the slot. Very helpful.
Have fun & sail fast
