“We’ve lost about 40 percent of the beach in the Manhattan Beach and El Segundo area,” Parker said.

King Harbor Yacht Club spokesman Mike Mena said a member reported waves were 18 feet in height.

“Cars parked close to the wall within King Harbor Yacht Club were getting doused in saltwater,” he said.

By 11:30 a.m., yacht club staff voluntarily evacuated after piling up 200 sandbags, according to staff commodore Jim Murrell.

“Rocks and pavement were getting thrown over the wall,” Murrell said. “There’s been nothing major, but we’ve had the club pretty wrecked before, so we’re taking precautions.”

The club moved boats used by the King Harbor Youth Foundation as a precaution.

“So far everything’s holding, but with the next high tide, you never know,” Murrell said.
