Questions: Ericson 25 Centerboard

My husband and I are considering the purchase of an Ericson 25 centerboard. How does this model sail in light air? Also, does it point into the wind well? We also understand that some models come without a topping lift. Is it a problem to install one? Thanks Everyone!

Actually, the E25 does very well in light air (for a relatively heavy boat of this size) as she will heel to her optimal angle (about 8-10 degrees) quite easily. Its when the wind gets strong (over 16-18 kts true) that you must shorten sail as she is easily overpowered and tender at that wind range. With her deck stepped mast and a tabernackle, installing a topping lift is a piece of cake!:egrin:

25 CB is a generally good sailing boat and goes upwind very well provided the rig is tuned right and you have properly designed sails (for the boat) which are correctly led and trimmed. You need to be sure you have the right sized sails up for the conditions you are sailing in to get the best performance (150% in <10 knots, and something < 110% in over 15 knots of breeze, and whatever you have in between). This is true of any boat-so assuming you are doing the right things with sails and loading (weight placement), the boat will do just fine! Better than average, for sure.
