Tragedy in Maine, Grace Bailey

Schooner Grace Bailey, suffered a mast failure with one dead. She was built in 1882 (age of mast was not reported), and has served in the Penobscot Bay windjammer fleet for many years. She was under sail in apparently routine conditions, so findings from an investigation will be watched with great interest.

I was sailing about 15 miles away from her at the time on Penobscot Bay. We had some very weird gusts and wind shear at low levels that day. I did not see the event happen.
