Now you've given up too, I can report that nobody missed a bargain. Mye lights worked, the brass plate had just corroded so they looked awful.

I sanded and primed and spray painted twice. I figured with Preval aerosol and Interlux Brightside, they'd look good. The paint job was fine, but they looked "painted." Spent quite a bit of time on it, too.

The overheads I reinstalled, because under the deck they aren't noticeable. Then I bought six new low-end (about $50) plated brass reading lamps from Defender.

Looked great. Eighteen months later two of them are corroding like mad.

Small things can be hard to get right.
