We bent the rudder shaft on our 1971 Ericson 29. We hauled out and removed it and it is in the possession of a welder who supposedly has bent them back before. Then it's onto the fiberglass work. When we pulled it out, there was no bushing or ring or anything between the two shafts. It seems like the most simple design but it's imperative we reassemble this properly (of course) and all the rudder replacement videos we've watched online have more complicated designs than ours (packing etc). Has anyone here done one just like ours before? Should there be some kind of spacer between the pipes? How much grease do we pack in there? I don't even know what else to ask. Total newbies here! Thanks in advance for any info you guys might have!
