I own a 1989 Ericson 32 and the rudder is as deep as the keel. If you ever run aground the rudder will also hit bottom. I am considering shortening the rudder 12 inches. Has anyone ever done this and if so what effect did it have on performance and handling

My 1989 E32 needs to have the steering cables replaced. Has anyone done this job and any advise on doing it? It is an Edson system.
