meaning water goes down to the keel...!?

Hello all, We just bought an Ericson 36' Cutter and after looking the keel at the bottom, we found a bolt that is unscrew able... Same on the rudder.. Any idea of what both are useful? Many thanks for your help! Christophe

E36 cutter Hey! We are from Canada and we just bought one (in fact the survey is scheduled for next Friday ). Will tell you next year as we plan to sail to Cuba, St Marteens...for a full stop in Belize.. Draft is 5.7' and bow is 12'...Not perfect for the reefs but with a good dinghy...
