E32-3 - Help my boom is disintegrating?

Hi Avie - can't see your picture, but the metal shop at Svensden's boat yard in Alameda solved my broken gooseneck brilliantly and not too expensively. As I said above, when I was hunting in June there was a Kenyon gooseneck fitting for sale at Boaters Resale Shop in Texas - listed as "steel and...

E32-3 - Help my boom is disintegrating?

Update Well I never did find a replacement fitting - nothing at Rigrite or at any of the many consignment places I contacted. Though if you need a fitting for a smaller Kenyon boom - for an E28, I think, there was one at BRS in Texas here But all was not lost as Svensden's metal shop were able...

Wanted - Kenyon 3550 boom inboard fitting (E32-3)

I only need the aluminium casting, but if other stuff is attached, I don't mind. This is what it looks like - unfortunately Rigrite say it is "out of stock, recasting" and might be available in "a while" - which I interpret as probably never.

E32-3 - Help my boom is disintegrating?

Thanks Today I checked the section, it is indeed the Kenyon 3550. I tried Kelly's, and they don't have the part any more, if they ever did. First thing tomorrow I will fortify myself with strong coffee and call RigRite. My next concern, assuming I can get the part, is how to make sure it is...

E32-3 - Help my boom is disintegrating?

My spar is definitely a Kenyon - so is there some connection I'm missing between Kenyon and La Fiell?

E32-3 - Help my boom is disintegrating?

Thanks, I saw that too. Has to be preferable to welding.

E32-3 - Help my boom is disintegrating?

Thanks again. There is bare aluminum showing where the paint is missing, but it is not powdery. It's a good question, what exactly did they undo and redo. I'm going to go back to the pictures from the survey last May and see if I can tell whether the washers were there before the mast was...

E32-3 - Help my boom is disintegrating?

Thanks - you've confirmed my best guess. Good idea about the welder, (tho I hope I can paint it black, not white!) Now, I wonder what are my chances of getting the yard to accept any responsibility for overtightening in the first place... :esad:

E32-3 - Help my boom is disintegrating?

After a great sail on Saturday, one of the crew noticed an innocuous looking semi-circular piece of aluminum lying on deck near the foot of the mast. It took a while for us to figure out where it came from: That's probably hard to see - it's the front end of the boom where it attaches to the...

Wanted - E32-3 Headsails in decent condition

Luff Length Thanks Loren - yes, I gathered that about the roller furling - according to the sail maker the luff length of the current jib is 40.400 ft. I'll measure it next time I'm at the boat, and certainly before buying anything. I was thinking I could remove the drum and use a sail with a...

Wanted - E32-3 Headsails in decent condition

I'm looking for a larger headsail for light winter days - I have Harken roller furling, and right now the only jib I have is less than 100%, so I'd be interested in anything from about 125% to 150%, in fair or better condition. Anybody need to make some space in their sail locker??? Sarah:egrin:
