    Magnetic North Pole

There is a special chart (I think it was called a gnomomic chart?) that you can use to easily plot a great circle route. First you draw a straight line between two locations. Then you take waypoints spaced at whatever distances on the line make sense to you. Then you plot those waypoints on a...

    Separate Trysail Track?

Yes the track intentionally curved a bit near the bottom to create clearance. Not an issue. We ran a separate halyard inside the mast exiting just above the trysail track. Had to cut hole/install sheave. No big deal. I'm going from memory here but IIRC it exited the mast, passed through a...

Thanks Christian. Somehow I missed that one... Proof of the "asshat" theory? :)

You must have bought "Naoma!" That is an AMAZING boat! The former captain was a bit of an asshat but he has a hot wife and took good care of the boat... :) See you soon Bambalina!

    Ericson 38-200 for sale! [Sold]

Our boat "Naoma" is for sale in Tahiti! She is extremely well equipped and prepared for offshore voyaging with nearly all equipment (including sails) installed between 2014 and now. You can find many posts about her in this forum and you can see her in action at TwoAfloat.com A detailed spec...

    adjustable genoa car system

yes We have them on our boat. Well built and so far have performed perfectly under a wide variety of conditions. Definitely nice to be able to change the headsail leads from the cockpit, especially when on watch alone at night or in a squall.

    Carabiners and through hulls...

Some things to consider... Aluminum carabiners corrode badly if not careful to maintain in salty air/water. Non-locking carabiners can tend to "grab" stuff (especially lines) they were not meant to capture. We've tried a bunch of stuff including standard recreational aluminum climbing biners...

    Jacklines video

Crotch Strap While I respect the experience of some of the people who posted they would not use a crotch strap I strongly disagree. The straps are not uncomfortable if adjusted right. We've happily worn them every single minute we've been on deck while underway for almost 20,000 miles now. It...

Heading off to the Marquesas this week.

If you have HF radio there is a quick but active and useful net at 1800 UTC and 0400 UTC on 8173. You may not be able to get it until a week or so out. Polynesian Magellan Net. Fair winds!

Forespar Carbon Fiber Whisker Pole Repair

I second Christian's recommendation for getting an adjustable pole. We often change the length plus it allows the pole to be more compact when stowed. We use a Forespar aluminum adjustable pole. It has been exceptional for the past 3.5 years of continuous cruising. We use it nearly every...

    Ais. Radar. Thoughts.

I agree with the posts stating it depends on the local conditions where you sail. Personally I think I'd choose AIS if I could only have one or the other in the waters we sail. AIS is less expensive, uses A LOT less power, is easier to use, and will work to identify nearly all ships. If I...

rudder post spacer auto pilot install

You're welcome, glad to help! If I'm slow to reply it usually just means we're out of internet range. I do not recall how much the tiller arm cost but brace yourself. I remember being astounded at the number. It was one of the most ridiculously over-priced items we've purchased. As are most...
