    M-15 coolant/exhaust system

Heat riser I had to replace mine 2 years ago and I put a Westerbeke aluminum heat riser and replaced all the hose, tubing and pipe to make it work. It came out beautifully and I like the Westerbeke part better than the original. The fit is a little tight but it's worth the effort.

    Interior rehab

Outstanding result! I have all the same work to do on my 28+ since I removed the interior and am in the process of replacing portlights and such. Very nice job. I'll probably be pestering you later. Meanwhile... I'm sailing!

    E28+ mainsail trim

Backstay tension I agree with using backstay tension but... it bends the mast which flattens the main and puts a huge load on the rig. I would recommend using jack stays (there are tangs in the 28+ and 30+ mast) for them and it would be kinder to the boat. What do I use? An 8:1...

    E28+ mainsail trim

Tilwinter, Thanks. I actually used a simple drawing program in AppleWorks to create the line drawing and just saved it as a jpeg. The 28+ is a 7/8 rig and it has a powerful mainsail. I have sailed a lot with a dacron/mylar 155% genoa and it is great around here in lighter air. It is best...

    Bottom Cleaning Interval

Smooth as a baby's bottom FWIW - Long ago I took to wetsanding Rascal after blasting the bottom with a pressure washer. That enabled me to put on a coat of VC TAR with an airless sprayer. I've touched it up a few times but it is very resilient. Over top, I put on VC-17. I haul out...

    Portlight interior trim rings

Portlight trim rings? Bezels? Ed, I'm replacing and repairing my portlights now on a 28+ and will be glad to share info. Mine have aluminum bezels, no trim ring. However, the Lewmar replacements have a plastic ring. I am putting in 2 Lewmar Standard #4 portlights replacing the forward...

    E28+ mainsail trim

Mast Rake, weather helm and the re-cut jib After thinking about this a bit more, when you re-cut a bigger sail to a smaller sail, you move the Center of Lateral effort forward. I added it to the diagram on the left side so you can compare in concept even though I am not using dimensions...

    E28+ mainsail trim

Mast rake and weather helm I made a quick and dirty diagram of what is going on here. Basically, imagine forces around the mast wanting to twist to windward (weather helm) and away from the wind (lee helm). The length of the lever is the distance from the Center of Lateral Effort of each...

    Universal 5411 overheats

coolant leak The first thing I would look at is whether there is coolant in the engine oil! If so, then I would suspect a head gasket. Also, are you getting a lot of steam out of the exhaust? I know that is hard to tell but the smell of coolant evaporating is pretty distinct.

    CEOA (Chesapeake Ericson Owners Assoc)

Count me in! I'm up on the Potomac and a day's sail from Lookout Point. It looks like a pretty good response so far!

Why Should Pacific Seacraft Support EY.c?

Why should PSC have anything to do with Ericson? First of all, we all have to live by our decisions, and FWIW, I think PSC's purchase of Ericson and the subsequent demise of Ericson was a poor decision on PSC's part. The end result is that Ericson owners have been alienated there is no up-sell...

    Come to sunny Florida

Hurricane insurance in Florida? I've never insured a boat in Florida so I don't know. I'll ask some buddies there to see if they know. You could also call BOAT/US to see what they say. Are you interested in finding a boat that's been damaged?

    Come to sunny Florida

Boats stacked like cord wood I would guess that the insurance companies will be looking at the boats, assigning values and giving the owners money to fix them or take them if they are "totaled" The question becomes, what does the insurance companies do with them? Where do they sell them? How...
