    Spotty Fiberglass

Hi gang, this is close to my heart. My 1980 35 Mk3 looked like leopard spots under the headliner. The Admiral was diagnosed with CIRS ( a mold allergy) which resulted in me learning an awful lot about black mold. https://jjimd.com/services/mold-illness-and-chronic-inflammatory-response-syndrome/...

    Replacing Morse Cables on Pedestal

Don't give up I needed to apply vast amounts of heat to the alloy housing NOT the s/s bolts. Eventually they separated. The casting holding the Morse is just a tube with the set screw clamping into the recess where the Morse clamp would normally sit. Mine required a vice, hot air gun...

    Replacing Morse Cables on Pedestal

Challenges aplenty So just to add to the thread, I tried the penetrating oil, percussion hammer, drilling heads off screws and finally - hacksawing the screws. Now to replace the cables and get the remaining threads out of the casting.

    Waiting on survey

Go for it Lorih, we knocked about in dinghies and trailer sailers and our Ericson is our first keel boat and we bought her to go coastal sailing (east coast Australia). Look forward to seeing you in Vanuatu or Fiji..

    Waiting on survey

I am jealous, my Mk11 is 1980, needed new rigging etc but she sails so beautifully. Thanks for the link, I'm going to steal a whole lot of the interior ideas. I paid $35,000 AUD and spent another $25k and still going but when she gets the bit between her teeth it is worth every cent. I am loving...

    35-2 bulkhead repair

Varnish is something the old boys used to drink. Me I prefer single malt, west coast whiskey. I am almost overwhelmed by the work I've created for myself, but now I've grabbed the tiger by the tail it's too late to let go. Come to Sydney, bring knowledge, I'll provide the beer :)

    35-2 bulkhead repair

Yeah the only birds on my boat are the ones I don't want! (inappropriate 1960's comment) @tenders - the insurance company was rightly concerned about the chainplate/bulkhead situation however once I sent them the pics and the shipwrights comments it was smiles all around. Thanks for the link...

    35-2 bulkhead repair

Glad you got the gag tenders, yes I would love to know how my boat ended up in the land Oz as well, maybe I should call her Toto (not keen on Dorothy). G10 is a term I'm unfamiliar with, the shipwright is a young fella just kicking off his own business up on the lake - he was quite keen to...

    35-2 bulkhead repair

2,5k I wish Hello Loren beach, poor attempt at humorous reference to falling Aussie dollar. The mast is tough as old boots however the spreaders were shot, the fittings corroded, in general no maintenance for a very long time meant replacing nearly all the running and standing rigging. The boat...

    35-2 bulkhead repair

Reasons etc When I bought "Rhiannon" originally named "Tenacidad", the surveyor pointed to the rot in the bulkhead around the chainplates. The rigger looked at the chainplates and said "we can do better" - so for about AUD$5k which is about US$12.50, I had a local shipwright make a bomb-proof...

    35-2 bulkhead repair

Thought this might be of benefit to other owners. The chainplates have been upgraded and the bulkhead glassed into the hull - she is tough as nails now!

    E35-2 Rhiannon has New Owners!

Jann and I took possession of our 35 Mk2 Rhiannon last Monday, overnighted after cleaning out nooks and crannies. She is getting a new bulkhead under the mast, new standing rigging and mast electrics. This will happen in the next few weeks. After that we can start the programmed maitenance! If...
