    Ericson 381 keel bolts

Thanks for the reply, my Ericson is a 1984 model, I have replaced 7 out of the twelve, there was nothing wrong with them other than cosmetic rust, I found the one inch studs to be in good shape. The only problem I have now is getting the 1 1/2" deep well socket on to the ones under the mast...

    Ericson 381 keel bolts

Am I correct that the keel bolts on the 38 are one inch UNC stainless steel studs? I can not find the correct answer this moment. Also has anyone out there replaced the nuts and lock washers? Regards: Jon Newman

    Cabin Soles

Ericson 38 cabin sole You have some very good advice here regarding the cabin sole, yes it is true that what gives this vessel great strength, triaxial grid system suffers from poor drainage. The replacement of your cabiin sole will allow you the oppurinity to solve this design problem to a...

    Rust and stainless steel

Rust and stainless That was a well written procedure, I had no damage to the core, the holes were oversized from the factory to start, I believe this will do as it had for 17 years. I wish I had read this sooner as I have allready finished mine this weekend, I believe that if you use an epoxy...

    Rust and stainless steel

Rust and stainless Mr Johnson, the u-bolts are threaded on one end, use a heavy mallet to punch them through the deck, leave the nuts on the end of the stud to give you some surface area to tap against, this will also protect the threads. Remove them after the studs move upward to the cabin...

    Rust and stainless steel

After removing all the through deck connections { u-bolts}I found that the rust had started to attach the threads at the very top where the deck seal is located, just about 1/2 inch into yhe deck. this is classic crevice corrosion, oxygen starviation. Al;though this was cosmetic, the metal was...

    rebuilding Kenyon spar

Chain plate connection If you have the original build list for your model boat, those parts should be named{ supplier} I would check with the manufacture, but I think that there is a mechanical type of fastner used, it well may be threaded ends into a block with a convex recess so the rod end...

    rebuilding Kenyon spar

I do not know about your model boat, I would though remove them and inspect / re-bed them, if you see any rust stains at the base of the U-bolts, go for it you will have piece of mind and you will know if water has started to penetrate the Balsa core. Hope this will help you. JENIII

    rebuilding Kenyon spar

chain plates I have inspected the through deck connections to the chainplates, what a job ! I removed them because they have been in service for 17 years, when I unzipped the head liner, white powder fell from that area. I had to remove them to inspect, they are machined aluminium blocks, very...

    Cabin Soles

The Ericson 38 is about compromise, with the triaxial grid you get great strength, but the bilges are shallow, around the mast step which is an aluminium plate that stradles the grid, mounted to the the plate you have the mast shoe. The shoe is attached to the plate with four SS hex head bolts...

    rebuilding Kenyon spar

Well the mast was unstepped last friday, no problems at all, all the fastners were removed as well as the rivets, lots of work, Selden supplied the rivets 4.8 X12.7 mm, 3/16 inch, which takes care of the spinnaker track, the exit plates, sheave boxes and assorted small fittings. The larger tee...

    rebuilding kenyon spars

Rebuilding Kenyon spar Captainpeter, I do not think screws are available, rivets yes, the size range you require for your spar are 4.8 X 12.7 MM, this is for the 3/16 inch dome head pop rivets, all your tee boxes require 1/4 inch dome head rivets grip length I will know later this week. mY...
