Packing - E32-2 rudder post packing

E32 - Rudder Post Hi Chris, and all... Ironically, I just sold our Ericson 32 a few weeks ago - to a group of three college students in Maine. I will be sending them information regarding this great site! I remember changing out the rudder post packing several years ago. Do you have...

    Re-sealing E32-2 Portlights

Where in the World is Gareth... Gareth seems to travel a bit. I'm sure he'll check back in soon...:egrin:

    Re-sealing E32-2 Portlights

Great success with sealing/gasket tape with Portlight installation I finally remembered that several had asked me to comment on the success or failure of my project of re-installing my port-lights, using the "tape" of caulk that I found at the auto/boat glass dealer. We had a very wet...

    Re-sealing E32-2 Portlights

Re-installation of Port lights using the "Tape" of caulk... Regarding the re-installation of my portlights, I finally finished up the job last weekend. I haven't uncovered the boat yet, and so was unable to "test" the seal out yet. However, I think those bad boys will not leak a bit. The...

Rebuild of Atomic 4 and Dripless Packing

Tim, Someone had asked me a while ago whether I had hauled the engine out in one piece prior to working on it... so I have pasted my answer here - and all you need do is reverse the process to put the whole assembly back down on the motor mounts! ... you need to uncouple the shaft, undue...

    Interior Brightwork question

My preference is for the Satin, as it creates a warmer feel in the cabin, especially in the dark - the lights don't reflect as brightly/sharply, and the woodwork looks more like furniture. I have a friend who also has an E32, and he likes the gloss. Just personal preference! John B.

    Interior Brightwork question

Interior Finishing I refinished much of the interior of our E32 - most of it after removing the cabinetry as I replaced three of the four bulkheads. So I had the "luxury" of doing most of the work in my basement. I had a few "dark/blackish" spots - I believe it was the beginnings of wet rot...

Rebuild of Atomic 4 and Dripless Packing

I agree with you, Cory! And, yes, I don't hope to do it again real soon! I honestly, though, like poking around with things and make them better. At least during the winter months - then when Spring strikes... I'd rather go sailing! John B.

Rebuild of Atomic 4 and Dripless Packing

As I mentioned in a different thread, I rebuilt an Atomic 4 (which I found fairly inexpensive, and it had freshwater cooling) and replaced the A4 that came in the boat. I should have taken more pictures along the way, but greasy hands dissuaded me from picking up the camera too often. When...

    Re-sealing E32-2 Portlights

E32 Portlights/removal/resealing Bill and all: I haven't found the time to re-install the portlights, and so, no report yet! Regarding removal - except for the over-gooped ones - it was a breeze! Simply removed the frames on the inside by unscrewing the ss-self-tapping-philips-head...

    Re-sealing E32-2 Portlights

I hope you all will bear with me... There are many threads on this site on this subject, and I've been involved with them. Also, most of the info gleaned from those threads have been immensely helpful. If this info is way old news, my apologies, and disregard! I was describing the...

    Exhaust anti-siphon hose

Ant-siphon I'm sure I don't know what the H*ll I'm talking about, but I'd just take the bolt out of the end of the small hose and fix the end as high up as you can. You could also (but probably not necessary) install a small anti-siphon valve in the end of the hose. Looking closely at the...

    cutless bearing change on E-32

Cutlass Bearing Replacement Loren is right on with this type of "quick" project. You never know with these cutlass beasties. I've replace three in the past, and with older boats, such as mine, it invariably takes the longest route. While the boat is hauled for some reason (here in NE that...

    Mast Step Reinforcement

More pictures Jason - Rather than clutter up the site with pics, send me an email and I'll send some directly to your email address. You can reach me at john.bski@verizon.net. By project, I'm assuming you are referring to the bulkhead replacement? My boat is a 32, and I don't have...

    Chainplates and Bulkhead - replace?

Bulkhead Replacement and Maststep support That's it! Thanks, Loren. I found it, but was unsure how to paste it in a reply. Now I know! John B.:egrin:
