    E 39 mast step

Thanks Guy Thanks Guy I am just frustrated by the lack of info. Feeling a bit bitchy because of a bad tooth :( Its my respect for Bruce King that made me skeptical. I figured if they were there, they were there for a very good reason. If what you say is true and I have no reason to doubt you...

    E 39 mast step

The boat is not mine yet. It is a 1970 model. I should have looked up the hull number. I was just trying to figure how big of a job it was to fix that mast step. If you can just cut the steel beam out of the way and build a little pedestal like you have it wouldn't be too bad but to replace the...

    E 39 mast step

E 39 mast base Looking at the steel beams under the floor in the 1970 e 39, (this is one of the first 39s built). I would guess the steel beams were an important part of the structure of the boat. In your photo it appears the mast base is just sitting on a steel pedestal. with no cross member...

    E 39 mast step

Thanks Chris. that is exactly what I was thinking. Cut out the liner to reveal steel crossmember's. The one thing I don't know is how hard is it to remove the old steel beam. It looks as though some have repaired this by just sitting the mast on a small piece of I beam. It would not add any...

    Tri axial grid construction

Ok I read that the tri axial grid wasn't introduced until 79, so the E39 certainly doesn't have it! But what does it have? Thanks Jim

    Tri axial grid construction

    E39 vs E37

The 46 does look huge. I would like to see it rigged as a gaff schooner. What do you think of the Freedom 40? I always liked the look of that boat. Too bad Ericson didn't build them. I think I would go with a stayed rig though. I like the sails James Wharram puts on his catamarans. Jim

    E39 vs E37

Thanks Guy, I am a few steps closer to buying the 39. I took a look at the 46 and was surprised to see it looks identical to the 39. They even put the wheel in the same place! Do you have any nice photos of the 39 in action? Also did you ever add a staysail to beat upwind in a blow? Jim

Buying a Canadian Ericson for the USA

Thanks Helga and Joe, that could happen. The boat is in Sidney so you may know of Blue Star. I would love to keep the boat up there for a while until I have to bring it back. I am going to try and get up there soon to see it. Do you know a good surveyor ?
