A very novice sailor who used to make sailboats out of flotsam on the beach and watch them sail out to sea. I bought my first boat in 1990 - 1974 20' O'day...having never sailed before! Loved the boat immensely but had to sale the boat to pay for college. Was boatless until 2009 when I was given a broken down 14' Scorpion (like a sunfish) and spent a year rebuilding it. Then the FIRST time i put it on the trailer a rope broke allowing the boom to swing out and hit a passing car. DESTROYED the boom and all my work. Fixed the boom and finally put the boat in the water - where it sank. Apparently the hull had cracked and trailer roller went through it without me knowing. Bought an abandoned '74 Macgreggor 24 in 2013 for $750 - boat, motor and trailer. And probably over paid! With 3 stretched, torn, stain mildewed sails I sailed it for 6 years with much pride despite it looking like a floating shipwreck. Unfortunately they lowered the lake I sail on and the swing keel SHATTERED. Sigh. I was given a '29 Ericson that was originally a Katrina salvage, patched together and abandoned for the last 6 years. I spent all winter/spring scrubbing mildew out of her, repairing the engine and then dragging it back out into Lake Murray (SC). She floats and sails, though the stuffing box leaks like a 4-year old kids runny nose and its putting a major load on the failing bilge pump. So that's why I'm here! Need to learn more about my current project.
